VEHICLE OVERVIEW

2011 Toyota iQ VVT-I A fabulous example of Toyota’s innovative micro car. Only two caring owners in 15 years, documented service history every 2,143 miles.

After a development program taking 5 years the iQ was first launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008, a year after its concept was revealed at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Created from the ground up the project was led by Chief Engineer Hiroiki Nakajima and was co-developed with Toyota’s ED2 Design Centre in France. A sophisticated four-seat city car unlike anything else that was available. With a wheelbase of just 2000mm and an overall length of 2985mm, the iQ was a full 420mm shorter than its Aygo stablemate, and yet it was 65mm wider.

The car was a true masterpiece in automotive design, featuring a flat underfloor fuel tank and Asymmetrical dashboard layout for optimum packaging, but despite its tiny footprint and proportions was a very safe car retaining a solid feel, achieving a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating in early 2009.

UK sales of the iQ stopped in 2014. Unfavourable exchange rates between Europe and Japan hampered sales, and modifications needed to meet EU emission regulations would have further increased the model’s price. Additionally, and in our view, the largest threat came from within the Toyota brand, the cheaper built and priced Aygo outselling the iQ by a considerable margin.

Despite this, the iQ remains a benchmark for engineering innovation, and the environmental message that drove its development has never been more relevant than it is today. It stands out as one of Toyota’s most innovative compact cars ever built. Currently enjoying a somewhat cult following, it really does have all the ingredients for a future classic and further appreciation over the coming years. Interestingly, Aston Martin took the option to base their Cygnet concept on the iQ, a further endorsement to its completeness of design.

This beautifully presented example finished in metallic Silver IG3 was first registered November 2011 and bought by its second and last owner from Jemca Toyota Bracknell in January 2015 having covered 10,628 miles.

It has been fastidiously maintained by Toyota during this time, which is quite rare to find, considering the car’s age. A full book pack, including service history booklet indicating average servicing intervals of 2,143 miles. Two fully functioning original Toyota remote keys are supplied.

It would be very difficult to repeat finding such a well-cared for, original and highly presentable example at this price point.

Benefitting from ULEZ compliance, £20 annual road tax and remarkable fuel efficiency. Rarity and a ‘big’ character factor being a bonus too.
